100 GRANTS FOR US$ 10.5 MILLION UNDER CHALLENGE FACILITY FOR CIVIL SOCIETY ROUND 11
With an additional US$1.5 million from the Global Fund, a historic US$10.5 million is now committed through Challenge Facility for Civil Society (CFCS) for 100 TB affected communities and civil society organizations to champion ambitious and strong national TB responses, advocacy and accountability efforts to End TB.
19 October 2022, Geneva, Switzerland - The Stop TB Partnership is pleased to announce that 100 organizations from 29 countries and seven regions will receive funding under its Challenge Facility for Civil Society (CFCS) Round 11 for affected community-led actions, advocacy, and accountability in TB.
World leaders committed to ending the global TB epidemic by 2030. Accelerating community leadership and actions with increased commitment to and investments in community, rights, and gender (CRG) approaches are central to the UN Political Declaration on TB, adopted collectively in 2018.
With the consistent and comprehensive support of USAID and the additional funds from the Global Fund, these 100 civil society and community organizations from around the world will receive funding to mobilize and ensure affected community voices and accountability in the run up and during the second United Nations High-Level Meeting (UNHLM) on TB scheduled for 2023; engage with national Stop TB platforms to strengthen advocacy efforts for resource mobilization and increased domestic financing for TB; engage in Global Fund New Funding Model 4 processes and National Strategic Planning and Reviews; increase demand for essential TB services; end TB stigma, break CRG barriers; and reach the missing people with TB.
The original call for proposals, announced the availability of US$ 9 million for CFCS Round 11 but today, thanks to an additional commitment from the Global Fund, US$10.5 million is now committed to support 100 community and civil society organizations. "This is a crucial moment for the Challenge Facility for Civil Society. We had an incredible demand for Round 11 and we could fund less than 50% of it and I think we all see how important CFCS is for affected TB communities and civil society," said Dr. Lucica Ditiu, Executive Director of the Stop TB Partnership. "We all see now that affected communities and civil society are ready to engage more than ever before. We have the expectations that these 29 countries will be examples of engagement with governments and communities, strong and ambitious TB responses and strong demand for access to new tools and new guidelines for everyone affected by TB. Lets continue to focus on the essentials – the central piece of TB response represented by people affected by TB and civil society. ," Dr. Ditiu added.

The Global Fund partnership is keen to invest in this effort, which puts communities front and center of the fight against TB,” said Marijke Wijnroks, Chief of Staff at the Global Fund. “We are glad to commit an additional US$ 1.5 million to support this unique initiative by the Stop TB Partnership.”

The Challenge Facility for Civil Society (CFCS), conceptualized and coordinated by Stop TB Partnership, is the leading grant mechanism for Community, Rights and Gender in TB for grassroots and affected TB community organizations. It also supports affected TB communities and civil society working at national, regional, and global levels to transform and focus the TB response on community-led engagement, human rights, and gender equality to end TB. This mechanism fosters TB community-led advocacy and partnerships for promoting ambitious planning and resourcing of country TB responses, accountability, demand generation for equitable access to comprehensive TB services, strengthening of TB community systems and creating enabling environments that promote human rights and gender equality in TB.
